Bridge-piling modifications on tidal flows in an estuary

چکیده

This paper investigates the impact of bridge-pilling modifications on tidal flow at strait a human-altered mesotidal estuary (Cádiz Bay, Spain). The analysis was accomplished by combining (1) field data current velocities in cross-section close to pile recently built bridge, and (2) hydrodynamics results from calibrated tested DELFT3D numerical model study site. focused bridge piling effects intratidal scale during neap spring tides. Semidiurnal (D2), quarti-diurnal (D4) sixth-diurnal (D6) bands were examined. ratio quarter-diurnal semidiurnal amplitudes (D4/D2) is largest (¿1) near bottom channel due friction, D6/D2 (¿1.5) shallowest part cross-section, internal asymmetry advective accelerations. Comparing tides, most marked asymmetries are found latter. These occur around wake pile, alternating flood ebb. location causes decrease amplitude D2 (50%), phase lag wave 30 min. D6 increases up almost 100% distortion induce created pile. Moreover, reduces about 1 m depth where pycnocline observed. Additionally, can be considered as an obstacle for sediment flux. extrapolated similar infrastructures, such wind or energy farms, that potentially modify estuarine dynamics.

Zooplankton sample variability in a tidal estuary :

A series of 347 vertical zooplankton hauls was made at a 175-h anchor station in the upper St. Lawrence estuary, Quebec, and current meter profiles were recorded. The 95% confidence interval of a single observation in most of the copepod time series was about 25400% of the mean. Temporal variability consisted for the most part of semidiurnal fluctuations superimposed on a long term trend. Other...

Tidal and atmospheric influences on near‐surface turbulence in an estuary

[1] Estuarine near‐surface turbulence is important for transport, mixing, and air‐water exchanges of many important constituents but has rarely been studied in detail. Here, we analyze a unique set of estuarine observations of in situ atmospheric and full water column measurements, estimated air‐sea exchanges, and acoustic measurements of several terms in the turbulent kinetic energy (TKE) budg...

Quantification of Water and Salt Exchanges in a Tidal Estuary

A calibrated three-dimensional hydrodynamic model was applied to study subtidal water and salt exchanges at various cross sections of the Perdido Bay and Wolf Bay system using the Eulerian decomposition method from 6 September 2008 to 13 July 2009. Salinity, velocity, and water levels at each cross section were extracted from the model output to compute flow rates and salt fluxes. Eulerian anal...
